Tax strategy and tax deferral
You made the money. Now keep more of it.
Sold a business, a property or a large position, or about to? M&E Capital Group connects people who have made a lot of money with the strategies that defer or reduce the tax on it, and with the partner firms that carry them out. We know this space inside and out, and we choose the partner only after we understand your goals.
A first conversation costs nothing and commits you to nothing.

How it works
We listen first, then connect you with the right firm
The firm that suits one seller is the wrong firm for the next. So the introduction comes after we understand your situation, never before.
Tell us your goals
What you are selling, roughly when, what it cost you, and what you want the money to do afterwards: income, simplicity, a legacy, or simply less tax this year.
We match you with a partner firm
We choose a partner firm that works in the approach that fits your situation and your timeline, and explain why we chose it.
You work with them directly
You decide whether to go ahead. If you do, the partner firm works with you and your CPA under its own agreement, and we stay available if you need us.
Timing
Most of these decisions close before the sale does
The most common and most expensive mistake is calling after the closing date. By then several of these options no longer exist.
Before closing
A 1031 exchange
A qualified intermediary has to be in place before the sale closes. If the proceeds reach your hands, even briefly, the exchange is gone.
Before the sale is fixed
A gift of appreciated property
A gift made after a buyer is already bound can leave the gain taxed to you anyway. The order of the paperwork matters as much as the gift.
Day 45
Replacement identification
Replacement property, including a Delaware Statutory Trust interest, has to be identified in writing within 45 days of the sale.
Before you commit
An oil and gas interest
Whether a drilling deduction can reach ordinary income depends on the form of the interest, which is settled the day you sign.
Our network
Relationships across every side of a large sale
Over the years we have built relationships with the firms that matter when someone makes a lot of money. We do not name them here. We pick the right one for you once we know what you need.
Wealth managers
For portfolio and income planning once the money is free to invest.
CPAs and tax attorneys
Who model the numbers and sign off on the structure.
Business brokers
For owners selling a company, before the letter of intent is signed.
Realtors
For property owners who need replacement property found on a deadline.
Funding partners
Capital for founders, operators and the companies we help scale.
Charities and foundations
For owners who want a gift to do real good as well as reduce tax.
Beyond tax strategy, we host fundraising events, support charities, run startup accelerators, connect founders with the companies that help them scale, and own and operate several companies of our own. More about us.
Questions
Common questions
Who actually does the work?
A partner firm we connect you with. We hear you out first, understand what you are selling and what you want the money to do, and then introduce you to a firm chosen for those goals. You work with that firm directly, under its own agreement with you.
How do you choose the partner firm?
After the conversation, not before it. The right firm for a rental property owner inside a 45 day window is not the right firm for a founder selling a company, and neither is the right firm for someone who mainly wants to give. We match the firm to your situation.
Is there a cost to talk to you?
No. A first conversation costs nothing and commits you to nothing, and you decide whether to go ahead with any introduction.
Do you replace my CPA or attorney?
No. Your CPA and attorney stay exactly where they are, and the partner firm works alongside them.
Is anything offered for sale on this site?
No. Nothing on this site is an offer to sell or a solicitation of an offer to buy any security, and there is nothing here to register for or invest in. The site explains how these approaches work. Everything specific happens in a conversation.
How early should I get in touch?
Before you sign a purchase agreement, if you can. Most of the decisions that shape the tax on a large gain have to be made before the sale closes, and several of them cannot be made at all afterwards.
